meet all CIWMB closure regulations .
The drainage system consists of a system of 12" diameter Corrugated
Metal Pipe (CMP) overside conduits, earthen "V" and trapezoidal
profile ditches, and two detention basins. Final grades for the
top surface of the landfill were constructed to a minimum slope of
three percent as required by the regulations. Storm water runoff
from the top of the landfill and the maintenance road is directed
to the perimeter drainage ditch that encircles the top of the
landfill . The drainage ditch is typically graded at 0 . 2 percent
toward downdrains located approximately every 400 feet around the
landfill. The downdrain pipes convey the runoff to the lower
perimeter ditch system, which in turn conveys the water to one of
the detention basins.
The lower perimeter ditch system around the primary site conveys
storm water runoff to the southwest corner of the primary site, at
which point a culvert carries the water over the East Bay Municipal
Utilities District (EBMUD) aqueducts to the main storm water
detention basin. The lower perimeter ditch system around the
secondary site conveys storm water runoff to the auxiliary storm
water detention basin. Water in the auxiliary detention basin is
pumped into the drainage channel leading into the main detention
basin as necessary. Water collected in the main storm water
detention basin is automatically pumped as necessary, into South
Paddy Creek just south of the basin by float controlled pumps.
7
