1.3 REASON FOR INSTALLING GW MONITORING WELL
A. HARNEY LANE
The 2009 Waste Discharge Requirements of HLSL requires two new GW
monitoring wells to monitor upgradient GW conditions at the site. This
project will involve instatallation of one GW monitoring well (MW-5) between
the wastewater treatement ponds and the secondary site (Figure 5). The
location of the second GW monitoring has not been determined at this time.
B. NORTH COUNTY LANDFILL
The existing GW monitoring well G-1 at NCRCSL is now dry because the
GW elevation has dropped below the sampling interval. A replacement well
is needed to maintain GW monitoring. The existing GW well G-1 will be re-
drilled and and re-developed (Figure 2).
1.4 WELL LOCATION
The location of the GW monitoring wells at both site are away from the
footprint of the landfill. Well installation work will not include drilling into
refuse or contact with refuse. Solid Waste Division (SWD) has staked the
location of the new GW monitoring, MW-5, well at HLSL (Figure 1).
Under ground service alert will be notified to mark all underground utilities
at or near the drilling locations. Well locations will be adjusted based on site
conditions.
2.0 DRILLING
Drilling permits will be obtained from San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Department (EHD) prior to drilling. The wells will be drilled and developed by a
licensed Contractor. A hollow stem auger drill rig is anticipated to be used to drill
the wells.
The Contractor will be required to comply with the work plan and to construct the
new GW monitoring wells per the construction drawings and specifications
(Appendix A). A boring log will be compiled during drilling. Spoils will be
dispersed around the drilled boring.
2.1 UNCOMPLETED BORINGS
If a boring is not drilled to depth by the end of a working day, the hollow
stem auger will be left in the uncompleted boring.
