VII. PERSONAL PROTECTION &MONITORING EQUIPMENT GUIDELINES <br /> A. PERSONAL PROTECTION: <br /> Level of Protection: C 7 D ❑X (with modifications) Modifications: See below <br /> 1. All personnel working on Miller Brooks site must wear hardhats, neon traffic safety vests, and steel-toed shoes. <br /> Personnel working in the Exclusion Zone must also wear safety glasses, and (as appropriate to the task) <br /> hearing protection and hand PPE. <br /> 2. Nitrile gloves and tyvek/saranex suit should be worn if contact with contaminated water or soil is likely. <br /> 3. Hearing protection must be worn if noise levels prevent normal conversation at a distance of three feet. <br /> 4. No eating or drinking is allowed in the exclusion or contamination reduction zones. No Smoking anywhere on site. <br /> 5. No Miller Brooks personnel shall conduct a confined space entry. In addition, No personnel shall approach any <br /> excavation area where there is danger of a wall collapse. <br /> 6. Respiratory protection is dependent on conditions listed below Section VI1.B.3. <br /> B. SURVEILLANCE EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS: <br /> 1. Calibration: A qualified individual will calibrate before and after field activities the photoionization detector(PID) or flame <br /> ionization detector(FID). Document the calibration in the attached log in Appendix C. <br /> 2. Frequency: The breathing zone of Miller Brooks employees on-site will be monitored every hour (at a minimum) and <br /> recorded in the attached air monitoring log in Appendix C. Monitoring should be conducted during tasks that may result in <br /> exposure to vapors. If vapors are detected in the work area, the perimeter of the exclusion zone will also be evaluated <br /> and adjusted as needed. In addition, vapor detection will warrant implementation/modification of vapor suppression <br /> measures. <br /> 3. Instrumentation <br /> Instrument Breathing Zone Action Taken <br /> (As Applicable) Reading <br /> Photoionization Total Ora.Vapors <br /> detector(PID)(MiniRae 2000 Bkgrd-20 ppm Level D. Work may continue. <br /> or equivalent) <br /> 20-200 ppm* Leave area. Contact Project Manager for direction. If re-entry <br /> authorized by Project Manager,use air-purifying respirator with <br /> organic vapor canisters. <br /> >250 ppm** Leave area.
