IL SURVEILLANCE <br /> 6.1 MEDICAL SURVEILLANCE PROGRAM <br /> According to Title 8 of the California Code of Regulations (CCR) Section 5192(f) the following <br /> personnel are required to participate in the medical surveillance program: <br /> ® Any employee who is, or may be, exposed to hazardous substances or health hazards at <br /> or above the permissible exposure levels (PELs) or, if there is no PEL, above the published <br /> exposure levels for these substances, without regard to the use of respirators, for 30 days <br /> or more a year. <br /> Any employee who wears a respirator during any part of a day for a period of 30 days or <br /> more in a year, or as required by 8 CCR 5144. <br /> • Any employee who is injured, becomes ill or develops signs or symptoms due to possible <br /> overexposure involving hazardous substances or health hazards from an emergency <br /> response or hazardous waste operation; and <br /> • Members of HAZMAT teams. <br /> As a requirement of the medical surveillance program, a physical examination will be <br /> administered by a licensed physician knowledgeable in occupational medicine. <br /> 6.2 RETENTION OF MEDICAL RECORDS <br /> All medical records and personnel exposure monitoring data, as applicable, will be retained by <br /> the contractor. <br /> 6.3 EMPLOYEE HEAT AND COLD STRESS MONITORING <br /> As discussed in Section 3.2.12, cold stress is not an expected hazard at this Site. However, <br /> depending on the weather conditions, heat stress is a potential hazard. When appropriate, the <br /> contractor will conduct heat stress monitoring periodically through the working day, evaluating <br /> personnel for heat stress using the signs described in Section 3.2.9. The heat stress monitoring <br /> protocols (e.g. pulse monitoring, rest schedules, temperatures, etc) will be documented in the <br /> daily field log book when necessary.
