r
Califomia Waste Removal Systems Report of Composting Site Information
. I
FACILITY
A. INTRODUCTION
This report of Composting Site Information describes the design and
operation of an innovative compressed windrow composting system which is
operated by California Waste Removal Systems. The facility is located at 1333
E. Turner Road, Lodi, California, on land owned by California Waste Removal
Systems.
This facility services communities in San Joaquin, Sacramento, Yolo, EI
Dorado, and Calavaras Counties.
California Waste Removal Systems utilizes an innovative compressed
windrow composting system in which the active composting is achieved in large
rectangular shaped windrows. This shape is created by adding one windrow to
another with no space between them.
Green and yard waste received from Lodi and other communities is
prepared for composting by manually removing rejects and grinding or
screening. Ground and/or screened material is placed in active composting piles
with front end loaders where it undergoes 35 to 70 days of managed
biodegradation primarily achieved with mechanical agitation and moisture
control. The material is then screened to remove large particles and cured for an
additional 60 to 100 days. Cured compost is loaded into trucks and shipped to
various markets. Some material is sold bagged and in bulk to customers on-site.
June 23 1997 Page 1-1
