Harprit S. Mattu [EH]
From: Karl Jensen <jensenkarl69@icloud.com>
Sent: Monday, November 21, 2016 2:21 PM
To: Harprit S. Mattu [EH]
Subject: Haley Farms Compost Operation
To whom it may concern,
My name is Karl Jensen and I'm the ranch foreman and head of compost operations at Haley Farms' Tracy
ranch. We are a poultry ranch and compost only our materials. This e-mail is meant to summarize our
operations.
We are a seasonal composting business. We compost only during the Winter months. In a typical year, we
will compost early November through mid-to-late March, with the last of the compost extracted by the end of
April. The remainder of the year, we dry our manure and store it for the Winter months.
We mix our wet manure with the dried manure for composting purposes. We use no outside products in our
composting process. We typically produce 300-400 cubic yards of product per year and never have more than 6-
700 cubic yards on sight.
Our finished product is stored on a concrete slab until it is ready to be transferred. All of our finished product
is used at Haley Farms sights only. None of our product is sold to outside buyers. We use our compost only at
our sights.
When we began composting, it was only to eliminate flies, odor and need to rid our operation of wet manure,
not as a money-making opportunity. Nowadays, we are a much smaller operation, with much less waste. We
compost only when necessary and have found it much less problematic that way.
If you have any questions, feel free to call me at(209) 815-0571. Have a great Thanksgiving and Christmas
season.
Sincerely,
Karl M. Jensen
Sent from my iPhone
i
