Pathogen Reduction. <br /> 17 <br /> 18 (a) Compost products derived from compostable materials, that contains pathogens in amounts <br /> 19 that exceed the maximum acceptable pathogen concentrations described in Subdivision(b) of this <br /> 20 Section shall be designated for disposal, additional processing, or other use as approved by state or <br /> 21 federal agencies having appropriate jurisdiction. <br /> 22 (b) Operators that produce compost shall ensure that: <br /> 23 (1) The density of fecal coliform in compost, that is or has at one time been active compost, shall <br /> 24 be less than 1,000 Most Probable Number per gram of total solids (dry weight basis), and the <br /> 25 density of Salmonella sp. bacteria in compost shall be less than three (3)Most Probable Number <br /> 26 per four (4) grams of total solids (dry weight basis). <br /> 27 (2) At enclosed or within-vessel composting process operations and facilities, active compost <br /> 28 shall be maintained at a temperature of 55 degrees Celsius (131 degrees Fahrenheit) or higher for a <br /> 29 pathogen reduction period of 3 days. <br /> 16 <br />
