Weber Avenue
Stockton, CA 95205
Att: Robert C. Ronyak
RE: LITTER EMANATING FROM SOLID WASTE COLLECTION. VEHICLES ALONG
AUSTIN ROAD
As you are probably aware, the San Joaquin Local Health District
has received complaints of litter blowing off of collection
trucks along Austin Road. Several of the complaints recently
received seem to indicate that this littering problem occurs
on the return trips after the respective loads have been dumped.
Surveillance of the area indicates some litter, primarily large
plastic and cardboard sheets , papers, and large pieces of wood
or pressed board, has fallen into drainage ditches and blown
into fields .
The San Joaquin Local Health District urges that each and every
collection firm using the Austin Road and Forward, Inc. sites
make a conscientious and judicious effort to practice and adhere
to the following:
1 . After each and every load is dumped, the vehicle
driver should thoroughly inspect the bed and, if
necessary, manually evacuate any waste residual
by sweeping or scraping the base and sidewalls
of the waste containment area of the vehicle.
2 . Prior to the collection vehicle' s departure from
the disposal site, the vehicle should be resecured
with tarpaulin, screen, or other tight-fitting,
durable cover. The driver should inspect the
cover to insure that all points of exposure are
covered and that the cover is snug.
