J <br />Methylene Chloride <br />Methylene chloride is a colorless liquid with an odor similar to <br />chlorofbrm.' <br />Methylene chloride is an anesthetic. Short-term exposure to <br />methylene chloride can cause mental confusion, light --headedness, <br />nausea, vomiting, and headache. Continued exposure may cause <br />increased light-headedness, staggering, unconsciousness, and death. <br />High vapor concentrations may also cause irritation of the eyes and <br />respiratory tract. Exposure to methylene chloride may make the <br />symptoms of angina worse. Skin exposure to the liquid can cause <br />irritation. If the liquid is held in. contact with the skin, it can <br />cause skin burns. Splashes of the liquid into the eye can cause <br />irritation. <br />Methylene chloride is classified by the U.S. Environmental <br />Protection Agency as a Group B2 probable human carcinogen. <br />The PEL for methylene.chloride is 100 ppm in air. <br />39 <br />
