WASTE QUANTITY PROJECTION - CALENDAR YEAR BASIS
Assembly Bill 939, passed by the California Legislature and signed
by the Governor in 1989, requires counties and cities to divert 25%
and 50% of their waste stream by the years 1995 and 2000
respectively. This waste diversion from landfills is to be
accomplished through source reduction, recycling and composting.
The County and the Cities in the County are currently determining
the existing waste diversion rates County wide, so for purposes of
this report a 10% diversion rate will be assumed until more
accurate figures are determined.
Based on 1989 usage and population projections, the following table
was prepared, that indicates the estimated amount of waste that
will be received at the Lovelace Transfer Station through the year
2010, both without and with the increased recycling emphasis of AB
939 . The table also indicates the actual quantities received.
