WASTE QUANTITY PROJECTION - CALENDAR YEAR BASIS
Assembly Bill 939, passed by the California Legislature and signed
by the Governor in 1989, requires counties and cities to divert 25%
and 50% of their waste stream by the years 1995 and 2000
respectively. This waste diversion from landfills is to be
accomplished through source reduction, recycling and composting.
The County and the Cities in the County are currently determining
the existing waste diversion rates County wide, so for purposes of
this report a 10% diversion rate will be assumed until more
accurate figures are determined.
Based on 1989 usage and population projections, the following table
was prepared, that indicates the estimated amount of waste that
will be received at the Lovelace Transfer Station through the year
2010, both without and with the increased recycling emphasis of AB
939 . The table also indicates the actual quantities received.
PROJECTED WASTE QUANTITIES - CALENDAR YEAR BASIS
Waste Projections in Tons
Without Recycling With Recycling Actual
YEAR Emphasis Emphasis
1989 125, 815 125,815 125, 815
1990 132 ,472 128, 660 132 , 593
1991 139 , 129 131,504
1992 145,786 134,349
1993 152,443 137, 193
1994 159 , 100 140, 038
1995 165,756 142, 882
1996 172 ,413 138, 668
1997 179,070 134,454
1998 185,727 130,241
1999 192 , 384 126, 027
2000 199, 041 121,813
2001 202, 579 123 , 978
2002 206, 117 126, 144
2003 209, 655 128,309
2004 213 , 193 130, 474
2005 216,731 132, 639
2006 220,268 134,804
2007 223 , 806 136, 970
2008 227,344 139, 135
2009 230, 882 141,300
2010 234,420 143 ,465
14
