Appendix G <br /> AIR QUALITY TECHNICAL DATA <br /> AIR QUALITY METHODOLOGY AND ASSUMPTIONS <br /> CALCULATION OF ON-SITE EMISSIONS <br /> To estimate PM-10 emissions from material unloading, sorting and <br /> loading the relationship developed for aggregate handling was <br /> utilized from the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency' s AP-42 ; <br /> Emission (lbs/ton) = k* (0. 0032) * <br /> (M/2)9.4 <br /> where: <br /> k = particle size multiplier (0. 35 for PM-10) <br /> U = mean windspeed in miles per hour (taken as 2 mph within <br /> the transfer station building) <br /> M = material moisture content (assumed to be 5%) <br /> The resulting emission factor is 0.0021 lbs/ton. Daily emissions <br /> were estimated on the average tons/day of material received, <br /> assuming that all material is handled three times for unloading, <br /> sorting and loading. <br /> Equipment exhaust emissions were calculated by multiplying a daily <br /> usage factor times the per-hour emission factors in the U. S. <br /> Environmental Protection Agency's - 2. Equipment usage within <br /> the transfer station was assumed to be 9 hours/day in 1995 (without <br /> the addition of Corral Hollow refuse) . Equipment usage was assumed <br /> to be 13 hours per day in 1995 with Corral Hollow refuse. The year <br /> 2010 equipment usage was assumed to be 14 hours/day. <br /> CALINE-4 <br /> The CALINE-4 model is a fourth-generation line source air quality <br /> model that is based on the Gaussian diffusion equation and employs <br /> r a mixing zone concept to characterize pollutant dispersion over the <br /> roadway. Given source strength,meteorology, site geometry and site <br /> characteristics, the model predicts pollutant concentrations for <br /> receptors located within 150 meters of the roadway. The CALINE-4 <br /> model allows roadways to be broken into multiple links that can <br /> vary in traffic volume, emission rates, height, width, etc. . <br /> A screening-level form of the CALINE-4 program was used to predict <br /> U. S. Environmental Protection Agency, Compilation of Air <br /> Pollutant Emission Factors, AP-42 , 1985. <br /> G-1 <br />
