Archaeological Servicess IM
Investigation Results
As a result of the field survey,no prehistoric or historic artifacts or other evidences of prehistoric
occupation were found within the project boundary. No culturally significant historic artifacts
or historic sites were found within the project boundary.
Recommendations
As noP rehistoric or historic archaeological sites were found in the project area during the field
survey, no site-specific recommendations need be offered. It is possible that further surface
clearing or subsurface work in conjunction with the proposed parcel development may unearth
archaeological deposits. If concentrations of prehistoric or historic-period materials are
encountered,it is recommended that all work in the vicinity of the find halt until an archaeologist
can evaluate the materials and make recommendations for further action. Prehistoric materials ,
might include flaked-stone tools (projectile-points, knives, scraping tools) or obsidian or chert
toolmaking debris, culturally darkened soil ("midden") containing heat-altered stone and cultural
materials, and stone milling equipment(mortars, pestles, handstones and millingstones). Historic '
materials might include stone footings or walls, or debris of metal, glass, and/or ceramic refuse.
Human burials are generally associated with occupation sites, and are not anticipated on the
parcel. If human remains are encountered, all work should halt in the vicinity and the County
Coroner should be notified immediately. At the same time, a qualified archaeologist should be
contacted to evaluate the finds. Appendix K of the California Environmental Quality Act details
steps to be taken, if human burials are found to be of Native American origin.
J-4
