RSSOclaTion
STOCKTON SCAVENGER RESOURCE RECOVERY STATION
Stockton Scavenger Association since it' s inception over 50
years ago has been in the business of salvaging salable items.
Originally this started as separation on the trucks while collect-
ing residential and commercial refuse.
As the cost of labor has increased the collection function
and the recovery function have been separated.
Today we are engaged in several types of recovery.
1. Residential Source Separation - where in residential customers
are setting out newsprint next to the garbage cans - the
collector is picking up the bundled paper and setting it on
special racks on the collection trucks, this newsprint is then
brought into the recovery center where is is baled in 950 pound
bales and held for market.
2. Commercial Source Separation - is from commercial customers
who separate cardboard. This cardboard is then picked up by
separate trucks, taken to the recovery center and baled in
1100 pound bales and held for market.
3. Selected industrial drop boxes (those containing eighty percent
recoverable material) are brought into the recovery center and
emptied - the recoverable material is separated by hand and the
remaining waste material is reloaded by a skip loader into a
drop box and disposed of the same day at the City owned land-
fill on Austin Road.
Facility
The Resource Recovery Building is metal clad steel frame build-
ing with a sprinkler system. This 3000 square foot building is
enclosed on three sides, to enclose a shredder - conveyor system
and two bailers. The floor is concrete. The area is fully enclosed
by fence.
Average monthly recovery is as follows: ]
Newsprint 23 to 30 tons
o a
Cardboard 115 to 210 tons
Aluminum, other metals and glass OCT g 1977
SANS ; .
t F.
POST OFFICE BOX 1747 • STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA 95201 • TELEPHONE (209) 948-3330
