Mr. Jim Walsh
November 8,1988
Page 4
0 Project 174-18.01
(k,
V
IY Concern was expressed that the storm water might contain water-soluble
contaminants an oil/water separator would not remove. Recycling the storm
water to the truck wash facility might allow these contaminants to be discharged
to the sanitary sewer. EMCON recently completed an analysis of soil samples
collected from the pond and drainage ditch to which it discharges. These
samples were analyzed for oil and grease, diesel, gasoline, benzene, toluene,
xylenes, ethylbenzene, chlorinated hydrocarbons, semivolatile organic
compounds, and heavy metals. The certified analytical reports are attached.
The results indicate that the only pond contaminants are' oil and grease.
Recycling the storm water to the truck wash after it passes through an oil/water
separator should therefore not result in discharging water-soluble contaminants
to the sanitary sewer.
We hope that this letter clearly defines the concepts and plans for the proposed
improvements to the storm -water management system at Stockton Scavenger
Association and resolves issues presented at the meeting.
