Typical Acceptable Items for Co -Collected Organics (CCO) Programs
Yes
No
All Residentially -Generated Commingled
Inert materials and plastic products
Food Waste Products with Green Material
including:
including:
• Plastic (bags, containers,
• Fruit, vegetable, breads, cereal, dairy
Styrofoam etc)
• Meat, fish (including bones)
• Glass
• Leftovers & table scraps
• Metal
• Coffee grounds, filters & tea bags
• Liquids
• Food -soiled paper
• Paper towels, plates & napkins
• Pizza boxes
• Compostable plastic bags
• Compostable food service ware
• Source -separated food waste
Commercial loads of food waste containing both pre -consumer and post -consumer food
scraps from food processors, restaurants, grocery stores or other food service
operations, may also be accepted. Source -separated food waste from commercial
sources may be mixed with green waste to achieve an optimum ratio of carbon to
40 nitrogen. Agricultural sources, such as grape pomace, may also be accepted. Materials
containing food waste — other than the residentially co -collected material — will be
composted utilizing a covered aerated static pile system, and could include compost
feedstocks containing as much as 40% food waste.
Anaerobic Digestion Digestate
The facility may also accept digestate from the anaerobic decomposition of food and
green waste.
"digestate" is an unstable product that has been digested, but not composted, and
would qualify as a compost feedstock. Digestate derived from food waste and green
waste anaerobic digestion process would be classified as a compost feedstock when
delivered to another compost facility for further composting and curing, and would
qualify as green material for tonnage accounting purposes.
"composted digestate" is a compost product that has been digested and composted but
not cured, and would qualify as a compost feedstock. Composted digestate with
subsequent compost process on-site derived from a food waste and green waste
anaerobic digestion process would be classified as a compost feedstock when delivered
to another compost facility for further processing and curing, and would qualify as green
material for tonnage accounting purposes.
Gypsum
The processing of gypsum from source -separated wallboard also occurs at the facility.
Only "clean" wallboard scrap from drywall contractors is accepted.
