I
Client: Jenkins Poultry Farms QCI# G-94-841
Project: Mello Road Ranch Page 4
lagoons were assigned a consistent clay content of 8 . 5% throughout
this soil horizon, equaling 48, 238 lbs. of clay that was originally
12
present . A clay content percentage of %- (incorporating an
additional 2% safety factor) was sought, or 68, 100 lbs . of clay.
68, 100 - 48, 238 = 19, 862 lbs . or 10 tons of clay was needed for
importation into each lagoon. An additional safety factor was
i incorporated, in which 13 tons of clay was added to each lagoon.
The clay was imported from the NARCO clay mine iii lone, CA.
After the addition and incorporation of the clay, soil samples from
0-8 inches were taken from the two lagoons . These locations are
referenced on the attached map. Since the clay was incorporated as
- uniformly as possible, the samples retrieved were composited for
each lagoon.
The soil testing consisted of the hydrometer analysis for soil
samples according to ASTM D422-63 Particle-size Analysis of Soils .
ASTM D422 specifies the reporting limit for clay size particles as
0 . 005 mm or less, and gravel size as 4 mm or greater.
1
Subsequent hydrometer testing and sieve analyses of the soil
samples indicates the south lagoon now possesses a clay content of
21. 0 percent, with 7 . 8 percent gravel content . The north lagoon
yielded a clay content test result of 12 .2 percent and 6 .4 percent
gravel .
The following Tables contain the relevant test data, along with
.j semi-log graphs summarizing the results of the hydrometer analyses .
jIf you have any questions regarding the information contained in
this report, please feel free to contact our Modesto office .
I
Respectfully submitted,
QUALITY CONTROL INSPECTION, INC.
j
Don Ches R.E.A. 5ss Wry, P.
A
1
1
AM
!Z, , `lullily lu,lhn f flpNMllrlll
