Egg Processing Plant: The processing plant is 54,522 square feet and approximately 36 years
old. The plant consists of a large building with designated areas for cooling the eggs, storing
the egg, processing the eggs, and storage for supplies that are needed for the operation. There
is a USDA inspector on-site every day while the processing plant is running. This inspector is
responsible for daily inspections of the facility. They make sure the facility is clean and void of
odors, flies, and rodents. There is a small trailer next to the processing plant utilized as an
office.
Compost Facility: This is a 60,000 square foot enclosed building with concrete foundations and
floors. This building houses a compost machine and rows of compost. There is room in this
building for another machine. Approximately 32 cubic yards of manure and carbon will be
dumped into the east side of this facility daily. It will take approximately 28 to 30 days to
complete a load of compost. We are estimating approximately 30 cubic yards of compost will
be completed per day. The composting house will have the capability to process 37 cubic yards
of chicken manure per pit per day and there are 2 pits. They are planning on installing another
composting unit with 2 more pits. This will give them the capacity to process approximately
148 cubic yards of manure per day. Completed compost will be stored on a concrete slab. It
will be sold bulk to agricultural enterprises.
Waste Storage Ponds: There are several storage ponds on-site. There are small storage ponds
between each of the houses 1-5 for collection of rain runoff. There is a storage pond west of the
processing plant for wash water and rain runoff from the processing plant.
Residences: There are 7 residences or employee housing on-site. They consist of trailer homes,
modular homes,and stick homes.
Wells: There are 4 domestic wells on-site. They provide fresh water to the residences, poultry
houses,and processing plant.
Waste Produced On-site Other Than Manure
Eggs: The waste eggs(cracked, chipped, blood spots, etc.) from the packing shed are dumped
into 55 gallon barrels. The surface of the barrels are covered with corn meal and picked up by
California Spray Dry Company for pet food.
Trash: All garbage generated within the facility is put in an 8X16X6 trailer and hauled to
North County Landfill,Harney Lane by S.K.S. employees approximately 2 times a week.
Bird Mortality: S.K.S. has about a 5% mortality rate. The birds are incinerated.
8
