IF
9® CENTRAL VAL#0 REGIONAL WATER QUALITY TROL BOARD
INSPECTION REPORT
29 October 1984
DISCHARGER: SCOTT EGG RANCH
LOCATION & COUNTY: 18401 N. Atkins Road, Lockeford, San Joaquin County
CONTACT(S): Jim Haley, Poultry Manager; Frank L. Miller Inc.
Manuel Arevalo, Manager, Scott Egg Ranch
INSPECTION DATE: 24 October 1984
INSPECTED eY : Louis Pratt
ACCOMPANIED BY:
OBSERVATIONS AND COMMENTS
A meeting at the ranch was arranged and an inspection was made to study the
animal waste management system and to determine what measures were being taken
to prepare for winter conditions. Under present management most of the manure
is hauled dry and is spread on a slope west of the south building compound for
storage and further drying. Mr. Haley indicated that winter runoff from
the slope would not enter the creek during years of normal rainfall. Roof and water
trough runoff are routed away from the waste management system.
At the time of the inspection, dried manure was being piled and prepared for re-
moval. Failure to remove manure from the drying area in previous years resulted
in off -property manure discharges and nuisance conditions in the spring. Flies
were well under control and very little odor was noted.
Staff's major concern at this time is the facilities ability to prevent manured
runoff from entering the creek at the bottom of the slope. An inspection should
be made later this winter to determine the extent of runoff.
INSPECTION SUMMARY
The facility was in compliance with animal waste guidelines and preparations
were being made for winter conditions.
4/6UIS F.
