Annap is attached for your reference. City crews immediately responded to the (Vcohun and
blocked the storm drain system tocapture the flow. The discharge was contained in the obornn drain and
later picked up.
Upon further inspection, three additional manholes were found tohave overflowed onthis occasion. One
each in agricultural fields east and west ofAirport Way, and one on the east shoulder ofAirport Way
approximately 500 yards north of Yosemite Avenue which temporarily flooded the shoulder of the road
and enearby cattle pen.
All of the standing water was either vacuumed up or pumped back into the novver oyubenn. An unknown
amount of water soaked into the ground around the manholes in the agricultural fields.
The overflow was caused by o downstream sewer bypass pump that had been temporarily set up to
facilitate repair ofthe influent trunk line atthe Wastewater Quality Control Facilities (W{]CF). The bypass
pump speed was set too low to keep up with sewage flows in the main line resulting in the backup and
overflow.
The pump speed was immediately increased and the problem was corrected. |naddition, the contractor
is maintaining the pump speed above what is needed in order to make certain that no other overflows
occur. The pumps are expected to be running for two more weeks until the new influent trunk Una is
connected hothe treatment plant. .
Based on our visual inapaoUon, we eaUmabebhct no more than 5000 gallons cfsewage was spilled on this
occasion. Most of this was recovered and nosurface waters were affected. An unknown quantity of
water soaked in (othe soil surface.
Please call ifyou have any questions.
Thank you.
o: Mike Brinton, Director ofPublic Works
/
^
 Robert MoC|eUon.
