Under the supervision of Professional Geologist Horacio Ferriz,
P.G.#5757, the 3' Quarter 2007 Report was prepared by Musco's personnel. Staff finds the
report to be in compliance Monitoring and Reporting Program No. R5-2002-0148. Staff has
the following comments for your consideration.
1. The potentiometric map presented in the 3rd Quarter Report appears to be computer
generated but the model is not referenced. Please provide the information in the footer
of the figure in the next quarter's report. Furthermore, the figure does not present the
information very clearly and is hard to read.
2. Based on our review of groundwater elevations, it appears there are two deeper
groundwater zones beneath the Musco factory and Class II Surface Impoundments,
rather than a groundwater plateau as proposed in the report.
3. Staff recommends Musco contour wells in the lower area separately from other wells
located in the mid-fan to uplands area, as describe below.
4. Staff recommends Musco contour wells MW-4, MW-7, MW-8, and MW-9R as one
group. Caution should be used when evaluating groundwater elevations of well MW-8
since this well boring has been identified as having significant sand to depth.
5. Staff recommends Musco contour wells MW-1 OR, MW-12, MW-18, and MW-22 as a
second group.
6. Musco has speculated, but has not presented evidence, that the deeper water bearing
zones are mixing beneath the Musco factory and Class II Surface Impoundments. It
has been agreed upon that groundwater beneath the site is highly compartmentalized,
California Environmental Protection Agency
a Recycled Paper
