SPILL CONTROL PROCEDURES : <br /> Spill in Anodizing/ Etch Room : (If a spill occurs with-in the confines of the Anodizing/Etch <br /> Room or an effluent alarm is received. ) <br /> 1 . Close the 3 " ball " Process Sewer" valve sewer and open the 3 " ball " Return " valve . <br /> These valves are located on the outside Tank Farm Pad area . This will <br /> automatically : <br /> • Close process sewer discharge <br /> • Allow for " re-treatment" of process sewer waste . <br /> 2 . Notify your supervisor. <br /> 3 . Don the necessary protective gear . <br /> 4 . Evaluate the situation and take action to correct , retard or stop the spill , <br /> Spill External to the Etch Room : <br /> Dry Chemical Spill : <br /> 1 . Notify your supervisor <br /> 2 . If the chemicals are on your clothing : <br /> • Remove the clothing <br /> • Remove the loose chemicals from the clothing <br /> • Wash the clothing with large quantities of water. <br /> 3 . If the chemicals are on you skin : <br /> • Brush away loose chemicals <br /> • Flush areas in contact with chemicals with copious amounts of water. Flush <br /> face and skin areas for a minimum of 15 minutes taking care to avoid getting <br /> chemicals in eyes . <br /> 4 . Using the approved protective clothing , shovel and broom clean up the excess dry <br /> chemical and salvage if possible . <br /> 5 . Dispose of the dirty dry chemicals by slowly introducing it into the U - 1 Processing <br /> Unit located in the Outside Tank farm . The pH should be adjusted to between 6 . 5 <br /> and 10 . 5 using sulfuric acid or caustic granules . <br /> Liquid Sulfuric Acid Spill . <br /> The proper protective clothing is to be worn while transporting any containers with <br /> Sulfuric Acid in them . <br /> 1 . Avoid any fumes that may be generated . <br /> 2 . Stop the spill at its source if possible . <br /> 3 . Notify your supervisor. <br /> 4 . Open the containment valve located outside the NW corner of the outside tank farm <br /> secondary containment dike and slowly bleed in the Sulfuric Acid into the U - 1 <br /> Treatment system for automatic pH adjustment . Maintain an output pH between 6 . 5 <br /> — 10 . 5 . <br /> 5 . Close the containment valve . <br /> 6 . Carefully hose down the containment area with water taking care not to spray or <br /> splash residual acid . <br /> 7 . Repeat steps 4 , 5 , and 6 until a neutral pH is achieved within the secondary <br /> containment area .
