25 January 2001
AGE-NC Probed No 99-0559
6 6 3 Sample Withdrawal
Water samples will be collected from the monitoring well screen using the same lift bailer used for
purging These bailers consist of 3/a-inch tube and base check-valve and are disposed of after one use
and require no decontaminating, thereby minimizing cross contamination due to sampling devices
Care will be taken to ensure that visible air bubbles were not present in the vials after filling and
capping
6 6 4 Sample Handling
Ground water samples will be collected into laboratory-supplied containers Ground water samples
for the EPA analyses described above will be collected into 40-m1 volatile organic analysis (VOA)
vials containing 0 5 ml of hydrochloric acid as preservative Following collection the samples will
be appropriately labeled, placed on ice and kept in a cooler until delivered to the laboratory for
analysis Chain-of-custody protocols will be used to document sample custody transfer from the field
to the analytical laboratory A chain-of-custody form will accompany the samples
67 Ground Water Extraction Monitoring Activities
The pump and treat system will be monitored weekly to ensure optimal removal of dissolved
petroleum hydrocarbons The ground water effluent flow readings will be recorded after GAC filter-
media phase Grab treated water samples and treated exhaust vapor samples will be collected on a
bi-weekly basis from the influent and effluent ends of the pump and treat system The samples will
be collected and transported to a DHS-certified laboratory in a chilled container under ice (water
samples) and under chain-of-custody procedure
During the "start-up" period for the ground water extraction system, flow rate, pressure and
temperature and ground water samples will be collected on a daily bads The anticipated start-up
period will be approximately two weeks, but will be extended if necessary for system stabilization
Three ground water level pressure transducers will be installed in the extraction well and into two
additional shallow ground water monitoring wells Weekly data will be collected from the site
transducers and after one month of operation data, will be collected monthly from the ground water
level transducers
Samples will be obtained and analyzed from the water treatment system effluent line to evaluate the
effectiveness of the treatment system If the analysis of the treated water samples do not detect
hydrocarbon compounds above the limits of the discharge permit, AGE will request the City of
Stockton to allow continuous discharge of treated water directly from the treatment system into the
sanitary sewer conveyance
Advanced CtoEnN iron mental,Inc
