1 <br />' 11 February 2002 <br /> AGE-NC Project No 99-0559 <br />' Page 2 of 10 <br />' The borings were advanced utilizing a 25-ton truck-mounted CPT drill ng equipped with 1 50-inch <br /> diameter hollow-stem rods A hydraulic ram was utilized for each CPT soil boring to advance a cone <br /> penetrometer tip to total depth of the soil boring Physical parameters of the soil penetrated,such as <br />' cone penetrometer tip resistance, sleeve friction, friction ratio (ratio between sleeve friction and tip <br /> resistance) and pore water pressure were continuously measured as the cone penetrometer was <br /> advanced to depth A continuous boring log was generated utilizing the Hogentogler Co CPT <br />' computer program The Hogentogler Co computer program utilized the CPT Soil Behavior <br /> Classification System (Robertson, P K , Campanella, R G, Gillespie, D and Greig, J , 1986) to <br /> generate a general lrthology type and display on a CPT boring log (See Appendix A) Rinseate <br />' generated during this investigation was containerized in properly labeled Department of <br /> Transportation (DOT)-approved 55-gallon drums and was stored on-site The soil borings were <br /> backfilled over their entire depth range with a portland cement grout mix <br /> 2 2 GROUND WATER SAMPLE COLLECTION <br /> Followingadvancement of initial boring to collect lltholo re data,the CPT drill n ,equipped with <br /> g g g q <br /> • a HydroPunch ground water sampling tool,was utilized to collect grab ground water samples from <br /> specified depths in a twinned soil boring advanced immediately adjacent to the original boring The <br /> HydroPunch sample tool was pushed Into the specified zone,then withdrawn approximately five feet <br /> to expose an inlet screen The interior of the sampling tool filled with water and a 0 5-inch outer <br /> diameter (O D ) stainless steel bailer was lowered and utilized to extract a ground water sample <br /> Ground water samples were collected from selected depth Intervals (zone)based on the previously <br /> acquired CPT-lrthology data Indicating favorable conditions for sampling groundwater The twinned <br /> soil borings were backfilled over their entire depth with a portland cement grout mix <br /> I Following sample collection,the samples were placed in laboratory-supplied containers,labeled and <br /> were transported under chain-of-custody to McCampbell Analytical Inc (MAI), a California <br /> Department of Health Services (DHS)-certified laboratory The water samples were analyzed for <br /> • Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) In accordance with EPA <br /> Method 5030/8015 Modified, <br /> I • Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX) and methyl tertiary-butyl ether <br /> (MTBE) In accordance with EPA Method 602, and <br /> • Fuel additives - MTBE, di-Isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE), <br /> tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME), tertiary butanol (TBA), ethylene dibromlde (EDB), <br /> 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA), methanol and ethanol in accordance with EPA Method <br /> 8260 Modified <br /> Advanced GeuEnviruonleulal,Inc <br />
