Blaen Environmental Management Inc U-Haul4709-50
002-70950-03 Work Plan
11/8/01
The target depths for VE testing will include the upper zone (5-30 feet bgs) and lower zone (30-55 feet
bgs) of hydrocarbon impact to the recent depth of groundwater The proposed VE test well is designed to
test each of these depth zones separately As a result, the VE well will be constructed of two 2-inch FVC
casings, screened at separate depth intervals (10-30 feet bgs and 35-55 feet bgs) within the same borehole
A licensed drilling company will drill and install the VE well using a hollow-stem auger drill rig The VE
well will be installed with 6 25-inch internal diameter (ID) auger to a total depth of 55 feet bgs The
screened casing will have 0 020-inch slots The sand pack surrounding the screen will consist of 8-12
mesh sand or equivalent The VE well will be completed, lust below grade, capped with a lock plug, and
secured with a flush-mounted traffic-rated 12-inch well vault The well construction diagram of the
proposed VE test well is included as Figure 14
4 2 2 AS Well Construction
One AS well is planned for installation prior to testing The planned AS well will be located
approximately 10 feet west of the VE well location (Figure 13) The purpose of placing the AS well near
the VE well is to use the VE well to capture sparge air In addition, the VE well will be used to monitor
the effects of AS testing
The proposed AS well will be drilled and installed by a licensed drilling company The AS well will be
installed according to the well construction diagram included as Figure 15 Using a hollow-stem auger
drill rig, the AS well will be installed with 4 25-inch ID auger to a total depth of 80 feet bgs The well
will consist of 1 5-inch ID PVC casing with 0 01-inch slots (screened interval) at approximately 70 to 80
feet bgs A 10-20 mesh sand or equivalent will be used as the sand pack opposite the screened interval
The AS well will be completed dust below grade, capped with a lock plug, and secured with a flush-
mounted traffic-rated 12-inch well vault
During and upon installation of the AS well, Blaes Environmental will direct the drilling contractor to
develop the well Well development activities will follow those described in Section 3 14
4 2 3 Investigative Waste
Drill cuttings generated during remedial well installation will be containerized in approximately nine
Department of Transportation (DOT) approved 55-gallon steel drums and stored on-site pending proper
15
