Blaes Enwonmentat Management 11, U-Haul#709 50
002-70950-03 Work Plan
1118101
4 2 5 Geo-technical Sample Analysis
Up to two soli samples from distinct soil horizons including the capillary fringe will be collected for geo-
technical analyses The geotechnical analyses will include grain size distribution, hydraulic conductivity,
total organic carbon, porosity, moisture content and dry bulk density The data will be used to evaluate
feasibility test results and natural attenuation parameters for preparation of the corrective action plan
4 3 REMEDIAL FEASIBILITY TESTING
43 1 Project Coordination/Planning and Management
Prior to initiating VE and AS pilot tests, Blaes Environmental will coordinate and plan the field activities
Blaes Environmental personnel will meet to coordinate and schedule VE and AS pilot tests, procure off
gas treatment and pilot test equipment and schedule appropriate personnel for field activities In addition,
the Blaes Environmental project manager will also coordinate field activities with the S]C, U-Haul and
vendors including analytical laboratory and carbon vendor
I
432 Vapor Extraction Pilot Test
Following the installation of the VE well, horizon-specific VE pilot tests will be conducted at the two VE
I
well casings The purpose of the VE pilot test is to determine the appropriate vacuum versus flow rate
curve and the radius of influence for each soil horizon The effects of the testing will be monitored at the
VE well and nested wells MW-3a/b, MW-4a/b, and MW-la/b The VE test will be conducted far 6 to 8
hours using a minimum of four vacuum steps at each of the two VE well casings The VE pilot test will
I
be conducted utilizing a portable, self-contained vacuum blower Evacuated soil vapors will be treated
through a vapor-phase granular activated carbon system prior to emission to the atmosphere
Nested monitoring point wells MW-3a/b, MW-4a/b, and MW-la/b will be manifolded with vacuum
gauges to determine the magnitude of induced vacuum in each soil horizon and to calculate the effective
radius of influence values for each soil horizon At the VE well head, a vacuum gauge and an in-line air
I
flow meter will be manifolded to record induced vacuum and extracted air flow rate
I
During the test, one vapor sample from each VE well casing will be collected from the influent side of the
jcarbon treatment system during the maximum performance of the test (fourth step) These vapor samples
will be submitted to a licensed analytical laboratory for analysis of TPH and volatile organic compounds
 i
17
