Slaes Environmental Management Inc U-Haul#709-50
' 002-70950-03 Groundwater Momtonng Report
8113101
• 5,0 RECOMMENDATIONS
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division has requested preparation of a RAP, further
assessment of soil conditions below 100 feet bgs, and further delineation of the lateral extent of
hydrocarbons in groundwater At this time, U-Haul proposes to complete, emedial testing and further
' Vdelmeate the source of hydrocarbon impact at the site prior to preparation of the RAP
Since the Installation of the nested groundwater monitoring wells at the site in January 2000, and the
subsequent year of groundwater monitoring, the degree and extent of hydrocarbon impact to soil and
groundwater has remained relatively consistent with previous data Although the lateral extent of
hydrocarbon Impact remains undefined to the east and west of the site, Amerco/U-Haul requests approval
to initiate the process to remediate the area of the site with the highest degree of hydrocarbon impact--the
former dispenser and former UST areas
As part of the plan to remediate soil and groundwater at the source area of the site, two remedial wells
• (one dual-casing vapor extraction well and one triple-casing air sparge well) are planned for installation
During installation of these wells, additional soil samples will be collected and analyzed for petroleum
hydrocarbons This data will further define the degree and extent of hydrocarbons in soil The air sparge
wells will also be sampled to fill in data gaps associated with groundwater monitoring near the building
' Ultimately these wells will be used for remedial testing, specifically vapor extraction, air sparging, aad
groundwater pump testing The results of these tests, along with the additional soil and groundwater data,
will be incorporated into the RAP The RAP will address methods to remediate the source area of the
hydrocarbon plume near the former dispenser island and UST areas
' Based on recent discussions with the SJC, Blaes Environmental will continue quarterly groundwater
monitoring Future reporting will be submitted quarterly with a status of planned activities Prior to
conducting any additional work at the site other than groundwater monitoring, a workplan describing
planned activities will be submitted to the SJC
1
' 13
