I
I
• 5.0 RECOMMENDATIONS
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division (SJC) has requested preparation of a remedial
action plan (RAP), further assessment of soil conditions below 100 feet bgs and further delineation of the
lateral extent of hydrocarbons in groundwater At this time, U-Haul proposes to complete remedial
ttesting and further delineate the source of hydrocarbon impact at the site prior to preparation of the
Remedial Action Plan
Since the installation of the nested groundwater monitoring wells at the site in January 2000, and the
subsequent year of groundwater monitoring, the degree and extent of hydrocarbon impact to soil and
groundwater is better understood Although the lateral extent of hydrocarbon impact remains undefined
Ito the east and west of the site, Blaes Environmental plans on initiating the process to remediate the area
of the site with the highest degree of hydrocarbon impact — the former dispenser area and former UST
area
• As part of the plan to remediate soil and groundwater at the source area of the site, Blaes Environmental
plans on installing two remedial wells — one dual casing vapor extraction well and one triple casing air
sparge well During installation of these wells, additional soil samples will be collected and analyzed for
petroleum hydrocarbons This data will further define the degree and extent of hydrocarbons in soil The
air sparge wells could also be sampled to fill in data gaps associated with groundwater monitoring near
the building Ultimately these wells will be used for remedial testing, specifically vapor extraction, air
sparge, and groundwater pump testing The results of these tests, along with the additional soil and
groundwater data, will be incorporated into a RAP The RAP will address methods to remediate the
source area hydrocarbon plume near the former dispenser island area
Based on recent discussions with the SJC, Blaes Environmental will continue quarterly groundwater
Imonitoring of all possible well casings at the site Future reporting will be submitted quarterly with a
status of planned activities Prior to conducting any additional work at the site other than groundwater
monitoring, a work plan describing planned activities will be submitted to the SJC It is anticipated that
the work plan for remedial testing will be submitted to the SJC by August 17, 2001
• 07/1o1oi
Blaes Project#002-70950-02 17 blm C 1BLAESIU-Hau1170950170950r101 doc
f
I
