U-ffaul#709-50 Blaes Environmental
' Additional Site Characterization
' did not contain detectable concentrations of hydrocarbons This sample point defined the probable
. southern extent of impacted groundwater(Figure 10)
The analytical results of the hydro-punch sample (HP-1) were also used for placement of the new
monitoring well MW-9ab Despite the non-detectable results of sample HP-1, groundwater from
MW-9a contained detectable concentrations of hydrocarbons (Figure 10)
The western extent of dissolved-phase hydrocarbons remained undefined due to hydrocarbon detections
in groundwater from monitoring wells MW-6a and MW-8a (Figure 9) However, the sample from
MW-2a contained lower hydrocarbon concentrations than those in the sample from MW-8a (Table 6)
This may suggest that the northwestern portion of the hydrocarbon plume is separate from the source
area The property immediately west of the site is owned by the Stockton Unified School District This
property is occupied by office trailers and stockpiled classroom furniture and equipment
I The main portion of the hydrocarbon plume appears to stretch east to west across the site between
monitoring wells MW-la, MW-3a, MW-4a, and MW-6a The eastern and western portions of the
plume extends off site and remains undefined (Figure 10) The property southeast of the site is
occupied by a former gasoline station that is no longer in use (Figure 2) It is possible that a separate
plume associated with this property may commingle with the U-Haul Facility #709-50 hydrocarbon
I plume
I
53 RECOMMENDATIONS
Blaes Environmental does not recommend further site characterization activities at the U-Haul Facility
#709-50 Based on the finding of this investigation, characterization of the site is adequate to proceed with
preparation of a remedial action plan and implementation of a remedial design
It is possible that future groundwater sample analysis may included fuel "finger-printing" This analysis
may determine a difference between the detection of hydrocarbons in groundwater from MW-6a and MW-
8a versus the hydrocarbons in groundwater from MW-3a and MW-4a
24
