U-Haul#704-50
Stockton,California SO;7'd
Environmental Technology, Inc
' Groundwater samples collected during the September 1997 monitoring event were submitted in
good condition, with appropriate chain-of-custody documentation, to Columbia Analytical (Colton,
CA) for analysis Each of the samples were analyzed for the following constituents,
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g), by the DHS-TPH method (modified
' EPA method 8015),
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) by modified EPA method 8020, and
' • Volatile organic compounds by modified EPA method 8260, including the oxygenated
compounds specified in the memo dated September 25, 1997 by San Joaquin County Public
Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD)
' The groundwater sample analytical results revealed detectable TPH-g and/or BTEX concentrations
in samples from all of the wells except MW-8, with the greatest concentrations reported in the
sample from MW-4 In general, the data indicate a marginal decrease in contaminant
concentrations for well MW-2 samples and a slight increase in contaminant concentrations for
wells MW-3, MW-4, and MW-6 samples in comparison with the September 1996 analytical
results
' The accumulated laboratory results are summarized in Table 2 and the current analytical results are
presented in Figure 3, along with a groundwater benzene isoconcentration contour map None of
the groundwater samples revealed detectable concentrations of the oxygenated compounds listed in
the PHS/EHD memo by EPA method 8260, although relatively minor concentrations of several
halogenated volatile organics were detected A summary of the EPA 8260 analytical results is
presented in Table 3 A copy of the laboratory report and chain-of-custody documentation are
attached
SOTA is currently in the process of preparing a Remedial Action Plan (RAP) to mitigate residual
gasoline contamination in soil and groundwater at the site under contract with UHI We estimate
that the RAP will be completed within 30 days, and a copy submitted to PHS/EHD for review and
comment prior to implementation
' If you have any questions or comments regarding this case, please contact our office at your earliest
convenience We appreciate your cooperation in this matter
' Sincerely,
SOTA Environmental Technology, Inc.
Dakshana Murthy, Ph D , P E •
' Project Manager
cc Reid Reiner9aF ONA0t.1V4.
U-Haul International,Inc
2721 N Central Avenue
Phoenix, AZ 85004
2
