' FRIEDMAN & BRUYA, INC.
ENVIRONMENTAL CHEMISTS
Date of Report October 25, 1995
' Date Received October 18, 1995
Project: U-Haul, PO #709-50
Date Samples Extracted: October 19, 1995
RESULTS FROM THE ANALYSIS OF THE SOIL SAMPLE
FOR FINGERPRINT CHARACTERIZATION
' BY CAPILLARY GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY
USING A FLAME IONIZATION DETECTOR (FID)
AND ELECTRON CAPTURE DETECTOR (ECD)
Sam le ID GC Characterization
' MW-7 @ 20' The GC trace using the flame ionization detector (FID)
showed the presence of low boiling compounds The
patterns displayed by these peaks are indicative of
' mineral spirits, Stoddard solvent, paint thinner or
another light petroleum based solvent The low boiling
compounds appeared as a ragged pattern of peaks eluting
' from n-C7 to n-C14 showing a maximum near n-Cg The
low boiling product appears to have undergone chemical
or biological degradation due to the presence of broad
peaks and a broad hump of unresolved peaks A distinct
pattern of n-alkanes was not seen for the product A lack
of n-alkanes is also indicative of chemical or biological
degradation
' The large peak seen near 25 minutes on the GC/FID trace
is pentacosane, added as a quality assurance check for
this GC analysis There is a second internal standard
' peak seen on the GC/ECD trace at about 26 minutes
which is dibutyl chlorendate
1
1
