4 . Notify the Stockton Fire Department — Hazardous Material Unit (911 ) . Notify the assigned <br /> Fire Marshal of a spill 2-gallons or larger. <br /> 5 . Contact the California Emergency Management Agency (Cal/EMA) Warning Center <br /> [( 510) 627-7100] if the leak enters the storm drain . The Agency may contact the State <br /> Department of Fish and Wildlife and other appropriate State agencies for response . But do <br /> not rely on Cal/EMA to make the appropriate contact to State agencies, always make the <br /> appropriate contacts outlined in the California Environmental Reporting System (CERS ) . <br /> 6 . Clean up using the appropriate absorbent and tools . <br /> 7 . Place the stored residuals in labeled spill containment drums , the label should read <br /> "HAZARDOUS WASTE . " <br /> 8 . Document spill and clean up procedure in records . <br /> 9 . Keep stored residuals in a contained area . <br /> 10 . Remove residuals for disposal within 180 days of the spilled material . <br /> Larger spills may necessitate contacting an emergency response team from the local Fire <br /> Department or outside contractor . Arrangements have been made with the hazardous waste hauler <br /> to be called in the event of a large spill . The following are the spill response actions for large spills <br /> (greater than 20 gallons) . <br /> 1 . Contact the Emergency Response Coordinator : Refer to Table G- 8 . <br /> 2 . Report the spill to Cal/EMA Warning Center. Over 42 gallons must be reported to the <br /> National Response Center (see below) . If the spill enters the storm drain, also contact the <br /> California Department of Fish and Wildlife at the Cal/EMA number. <br /> 3 . Stop the leak at the source if safe to do so . <br /> 4 . Cover storm drains with magnetic liquid tight covers . Other options would include : build <br /> dikes or place absorbent spill booms (waddles) around storm drains and across facility <br /> drainage paths to prevent contamination of storm drains or to prevent flow off site or onto <br /> unpaved areas . <br /> The Emergency Coordinator in all cases should : <br /> 1 . Make sure all personnel are evacuated from the spill area and are safe . <br /> 2 . Provide the emergency responders with the exact source of the spill, material spilled, its <br /> hazardous properties, the estimated volume spilled and the area covered by the spill . <br /> 3 . See attachment 4, Discharge Notification Form . <br /> 6 . Review storage and operating practices to prevent reoccurrence and document findings . <br /> 7 .
