Purpose <br /> a . This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP ) explains the safety procedures for the safe <br /> use and operation of the NewStripe AeroVent 1X aerosol can puncture device . <br /> 2 . Safe Procedures <br /> a . Always wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment ( PPE ) when operating the <br /> aerosol can puncture device . <br /> b . Always consult your facility Safety Coordinator or Alternate for specified safety <br /> procedures prior to operating this equipment . <br /> c . Please read and understand all operation instructions as detailed in the Operations <br /> Manual . Failure to follow specified instructions may result in equipment damage or <br /> serious injury to personnel , including death . <br /> d . Always refer to the chemical product Safety Data Sheet ( SDS ) for specific chemical <br /> handling and safety instructions prior to deflating ( puncturing) aerosol cans . <br /> e . Always refer to the chemical product Safety Data Sheet ( SDS ) to check chemical <br /> compatibility when multiple aerosol cans are to be co - mingled in the safe collection <br /> 55 -gallon steel drum . <br /> f. Liquids collected into the 55 -gallon steel drum may contain highly flammable liquid <br /> and vapor . Keep away from heat, sparks, and flame — No smoking near the unit or <br /> drum . <br /> L The 55 -gallon steel drum shall be labeled with a HAZARDOUS WASTE label <br /> either provided by the Waste Hauler Company or the standard Yellow <br /> HAZARDOUS WASTE label . <br /> g . Take precautionary measures against static discharge . Ensure the grounding cable is <br /> attached to a suitable grounding source such as a metal water pipe, grounding rod , <br /> or similar approved ground connection . <br /> h . Keep the container closed when not in use . This is with the handle of the AeroVent <br /> 1X pushed down and locked . <br /> i . Store in cool , well -ventilated area . <br /> j . Avoid contact with eyes, skin , and clothing . <br /> k . Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment ( PPE ) ; avoid direct contact with <br /> aerosol can contents . <br /> i ' <br />
