Wilson Way
Stockton, California
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) has received and reviewed
Proposal for Additional Soil Investigation (WP) dated 10 January 2008, prepared by Advanced
GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (AGE) on your behalf. The WP was prepared to address issues raised
during a telephonic communication between the EHD and AGE. In the WP, AGE proposes to
advance three soil borings to 40 feet below surface grade (bsg), two borings to further assess
hydrocarbon-impacted soil encountered during removal of underground storage tanks (USTs)
numbers 2 and 3 and one soil boring to evaluate the effectiveness of the operating soil vapor
extraction (SVE) system. The former UST area has not had further assessment of impacted soil
since the USTs were removed. Any of the soil borings yielding significantly impacted soil
samples will be converted to SVE wells and incorporated into the SVE system. AGE proposes
that the well screens of such wells should extend from 10 to 35 feet bsg.
Soil samples will be collected at 5-foot intervals; selected soil samples will be submitted for
chemical analysis for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g), benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX), methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-
DCA), ethylene dibromide (EDB) and the other fuel oxygenates.
The EHD approves the work plan as necessary and adequate [Health & Safety Code (H&S)
Section 25299.37(c)(3)], but recommends that the screen intervals of any borings converted to
SVE wells should be limited to the interval of significantly impacted soil in each boring. Please
implement this approved work plan within 60 days of the date of this letter. Submit a well permit
application with the required $89.00 permit fee and $297.00 inspection fee ($386.00 total) to the
EHD. Provide the EHD with a minimum 48-hour notice prior to initiating any field work.
Your questions and comments should be directed to Nuel Henderson, Engineering Geologist, at
(209)468-3436 or by mail (address on the letterhead).
Nuel C.
