FINDINGS
Ground water elevation, flow direction and gradient were determined from field data collected on
' 26 August 2003 The contaminant impact to ground water was quantified by laboratory analysis of
water samples
' 3 1 GROUND WATER ELEVATION AND GRADIENT
' The depths to ground water from the purged wells were measured between 42 50 and 44 37 feet
below the top of the well casings Ground water elevations were calculated to be between 26 68
(MW-8) feet and 28 21 (MW-7A) feet below mean sea level (MSL) Generally, ground water
' elevation at the site decreased an average 1 13 feet between the June 2003 and the August 2003
ground water monrtoi ing events Ground water flow direction at both the Top Filling and Knowles-
Rock sites were inferred to be towards the northeast at gradients of 0 004 feet/feet or less
' (approximately 21 feet pei mile) The ground water elevation data during the August 2003 ground
water monitoring event is depicted in Figures 3 and 4
• 3 2 LABORATORY RESULTS OF MONITORING WELL GROUND WATER SAMPLES
' A total of seventeen gi ound water sainples were submitted to Cal Tech Environmental Laboratories,
a DHS-certified laboiatory, for analysis referenced in Section 2 3
TPH-g was detected in water samples collected from wells MW-2, MW-3, MW-5, MW-6 (B - E),
MW-7 (B - E), VW-I C, VW-2A and VW-3A at concentrations as high as 150,000 micrograms per
liter (4g/1) in the sample collected from MW-713
Benzene was detected in the above monitoring well samples at a maximum concentration of 36,000
µg/1 (MW-7B) Othei BTEX compounds weie detected in the above monitoring well samples at
concentrations as high as 36,000 pg/l (toluene from VW-1C)
MTBE was detected in ground water samples collected from wells MW-3, MW-6 (B - E), MW-7
(B and C), VW-1 C, VW-2A and VW-3A at concentrations as high as 2,300 µg/1 (MW-613), 1,2-
DCA was detected in ground water samples collected from wells MW-7B, VW-IC, VW-2A and
IVW-3A at concentrations as higl-i as 170 dig/l (VW-2A)
No other fuel components wei e detected in the gra Lind water samples Previous and current analytical
results of ground watei monitoring well samples are summarized in Tables 3 and 4 The laboratory
reports (Cal Tech Enviionmental Laboratories I D No 0308-125) and chain-of-custody forms are
presented in Appendix C
Advanced GeoEnvironmentni,Inc
I
