20 March 1996 <br /> AGE-NC Project No 95-0130 <br /> Page 5 of 23 <br />' 3 5 MONITORING WELL SURVEYING <br /> iA reference point was marked on the top of the well casing of each moratonng well and surveyed to <br /> the nearest 0 01-foot to determine the elevation relative to existing ground water monitoring wells <br />' The results of the monitoring well survey are contained in Table 2 <br />' 3 6 MONITORING WELL DEVELOPMENT <br /> On I5 December 1995 and 24 January 1996, monitoring wells MW-4 and MW-5, respectively, were <br />' developed Each well was developed utilizing a Grundfos Redi Flo II submersible pump Ground <br /> water was purged from each well until the water produced was essentially sediment free <br /> Approximately 25 gallons of ground water was purged from each monitoring well Purged ground <br />' water was containerized in properly labeled D O T model 17H 55-gallon drums and stored on-site <br /> in an area inaccessible to the general public <br /> 3 7 SOIL PROFILE <br />' Generally, a gray to brown, fine sandy, silty clay to clayey silt was encountered in most bonngs from <br /> surface grade to depths of approximately 20 feet bsg A brown, stiff, clayey, fine sandy silt was <br /> encountered from 20 feet bsg to approximately 30 feet bsg at the site <br /> A gray to brown, fine sand silt clay to clayey silt was encountered from 30 feet bsg to <br /> g Y Y� Y Y Y Y g <br /> approximately 40 feet bsg at the site A gray to brown, stiff, clayey, fine sandy silt was encountered <br /> from 40 feet bsg to approximately 80 feet bsg Groundwater was encountered in each boring at a <br /> depth of approximately 55 feet bsg Boring logs are included in Appendix A Cross sections depicting <br /> soil lithology and the approximate extent of hydrocarbon-impacted soil on the site are depicted in <br /> Figures 8 and 9 <br /> 3 8 FIELD EVIDENCE OF HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED SOIL <br /> During drilling, organic vapors(OVs) were detected at concentrations as high as 1,860 ppm (MW-5 <br /> at 45 feet) Hydrocarbon odors and OVs were detected in VW-1, VW-2, VW-3 and MW-5 at depths <br /> between 15 and 63 feet bsg, 30 and 63 feet bsg, 20 to 63 feet bsg, and 35 to 45 feet bsg, respectively <br /> OVs were not detected in samples collected from MW-4 <br />
