R.ipona Market
0 •
Subsurface Soil & Groundwater Investigation III
Page: 4
2.0 WORK PLAN
M J Kloberdanz & Associates propose to construct 6 exploratory borings to a maximum
depth of 40 feet in the vicinity of the previously detected contamination At least one of
the bonngs will be located in the down gradient direction from the former tank pit The
other borings will be located to define the limits of the soil and groundwater
contamination
A maximum of three soil samples will be obtained from each boring for laboratory
analysis and will include a sample from the capillary zone and any apparently
contaminated areas above or below groundwater Groundwater samples will be collected
from each soil boring location Soil samples for organic carbon and permeability testing
will be collected from the saturated zone
Soil samples will be delivered under chain of custody to an analytical laboratory licensed
by the State of California for hazardous materials work The samples shall be analyzed
for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (gasoline), BTX&E (Benzene, Toluene, Xylene, and
Ethyl Benzene), and MTBE by method 8021B The soil sample with the highest
concentration of MTBE will be confirmed by Method 8260 for each boring
The water samples shall be analyzed for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (gasoline),
Oxygenated Compounds (method 8260), and BTX&E (Benzene, Toluene, Xylene, and
Ethyl Benzene) by Method 8021B
A report of the subsurface investigation containing site map, boring logs, and soil and
groundwater sampling records with laboratory data sheets will be prepared at the end of
this phase of work All work will be certified as conducted under the direct supervision
of a licensed professional
2.1 Drilling
Permits will be obtained, as necessary, for the borings before drilling begins The
soil boring will be accomplished using a mobile mounted Geoprobe' Systems
drilling rig, Model 5400, employing the use of a 1 25"hollow probe rods The
contractor conducting the drilling will posses a valid C-57 license and proof of
workman's compensation insurance
All drilling equipment will be thoroughly steam cleaned before drilling begins to
prevent the introduction of contamination from off site, and between borings to
prevent cross contamination
The borings will be logged under the direct supervision of a registered geologist
using the Unified Soil Classification System The color, texture, moisture, plasticity
(if applicable), consistency of the earth materials, pertinent soil or bedrock
Scharacteristics, and any evidence of contamination will be noted All water-bearing
zones and the depths at which they are encountered will be noted on these logs
