w Ripona Market
Vertical Groundwater Investigation&November 2003 Quarterly Report
Page: 8
i The analytical laboratory reported groundwater contamination by MTBE 1 in
(1960 u )
well MW-2, located at the edge of the tank basin. MTBE groundwater contamination for
the November 26, 2003 /December 8, 2003 events are presented in Figure 6.
Laborato Groundwater Sam le Results Petroleum Compounds 11-26-031 12-8-03
Sample I.D. The soil 1
boring was accomplished using a mobile mounted drilling rig employing the use
of 10-inch and 8-718-inch o.d hollow stem flight augers. All drilling equipment
7- was thoroughly steam-cleaned before drilling began, to prevent the introduction
i of contamination from off site, and between borings to prevent cross
contamination.
The borings were logged under the direct supervision of a registered professional
using the Unified Soil Classification System. The color, texture, moisture,
plasticity (if applicable), consistency of the earth materials, pertinent soil or
bedrock characteristics, and any evidence of contamination will be noted. All
water-bearing zones and the depths at which they were encountered are noted on
these logs.
The boring was drilled using a conductor casing to seal off the upper strata to
prevent cross contamination between strata. Upon termination, the boring was
completed as a deep monitoring well w'th a fii to--foot screen and backfilled with
- concrete grout, after a Bentonite seal habeen placed.
The cuttings from the drilling operation were containerized on-site during drilling
for proper disposition. The proper method of disposal will be dependent upon
results of laboratory analysis. This disposal will be the responsibility of the client
unless other arrangements are made.
2.2 Soil Sampling
!
All soil sampling equipment was thoroughly steam-cleaned before and between
sampling to prevent cross contamination. Relatively undisturbed soil samples
y • were taken at intervals of not more than 5 feet in order to evaluate the subsurface
materials.
