At the time of the inspection E D staff determined
that your septic system serves more than 20 people per day. Since groun J water is a source of
drinking water, subsurface waste disposal is regulated under the United S ates Safe Drinking
Water Act.
EHD has implemented a Local Agency Groundwater Protection/Underground Injection Control
(UIC) Program in accordance with guidelines prepared by the United States Environmental
Protection Agency(USEPA). The primary focus of the program is to protect drinking water by
identification and evaluation of subsurface disposal of waste fluids that mE y lead to the
degradation of drinking water supplies.
By definition any septic system that serves more than 20 people per day i a shallow injection
well, so your facility has been placed on the EHD list of UIC sites. In addi ion, please provide in
writing the disposal method for your storm water(on site pond, ditches, drl wells). Following
review of the information submitted, EHD will evaluate if your storm water disposal method meets
the definition of an underground injection well and if modifications are necessary and/or if it
should be inventoried as an underground injection well. Enclosed is an "Inventory of Injection
Wells"form that is to be completed and submitted to USEPA in San Francisco (address on page
2 of form)if your facility has a septic or storm system that meets the definition of an underground
injection well. Please submit a copy of the form to EHD once it is complet d.
The above requested information about your facility should be submitted t EHD by July 1, 2005.
If you have any questions contact me at(209)468-3449.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Department
" V
Margaret Lagorio, Supervising REHS
Unit IV
Enc.
