Site Investigation Work Plan January 22, 1999 <br /> 1108 West Tokay Street Lodi, California <br /> Soil Boring <br /> We believe the best means for quickly and inexpensively assessing soil contamination <br /> during the early phase of this work would involve the use of drive-point sampling techniques. <br /> This is a quick and cost-effective way of collecting undisturbed soil and groundwater samples as <br /> required. The other advantage of this is that there will be no drill cuttings left on site. The <br /> penetrations are made using a hydraulically driven or hammer-driven steel probe. Samples are <br /> collected by withdrawing the probe and driving a 2-in outer diameter split-spoon sampler into <br /> undisturbed soil at the base of the boring. Samples are collected in 1.5-in diameter, clean brass <br /> sleeves mounted in the sampler. <br /> Soil samples will be collected at maximum 5-ft intervals and at lithologic contacts in the <br /> borings using a split-spoon sampler fitted with clean brass sleeves. Soil samples designated for <br /> possible laboratory analysis will be sealed, labeled, entered onto a chain of custody record, and <br /> placed in iced storage. A photoionizing organic vapor meter(OVM) will be used during <br /> sampling to detect potential hydrocarbon concentrations in the soil samples. Each penetration <br /> will be backfilled with a neat cement/bentonite powder grout. <br /> A groundwater sample will be collected from the boring by inserting a 1-in diameter <br /> slotted temporary PVC casing into the boring approximately 3 to 5 ft below the groundwater <br /> surface. Groundwater is then purged from the casing using a bailer or surface pumps and a <br /> sample collected for analysis. Sample water will be collected in 40-m1 glass vials, 1-liter glass <br /> bottles, and 500-m1 plastic bottles for the required analyses. <br /> After exploration using the drive-point sampling techniques and evaluation of field and <br /> laboratory data, site data (boring logs, analytical reports) will be summarized and <br /> recommendations will be presented in a report. <br /> QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE <br /> Lush Geosciences, Inc. and its Principal Geologist, Andrew Lush, has extensive <br /> experience across a wide range of projects. Relevant experience includes development of <br /> groundwater and vadose-zone monitoring programs and mitigation of subsurface contamination <br /> for a wide variety of contaminated sites including service stations, landfills, refineries, bulk lbel <br /> storage plants, agricultural sites, and industrial facilities; groundwater sampling and sample <br /> analyses for Solid Waste Assessment Tests for landfills.
