Mr. Frank May Applied Geotechnology Inc.
USG Corporation
July 27, 1990
Page 2
Our scope of services will include the following tasks:
o Obtain necessary permits from the San Joaquin Local Health Department
for remediation work.
o Obtain subcontractors for on-site analytical laboratory services, and
excavation and transportation of material requiring off-site disposal.
o Excavate contaminated soil along the base and sides of the drainage
ditch to limits established by field testing. Our cleanup goal is to
remove soil exceeding 100 ppm TPH.
o Stockpile the excavated soil on heavy plastic sheeting. One composite
sample will be obtained from the stockpile and submitted for chemical
analysis. The chemical analyses results will be provided to the nearest
approved Class II landfill.
o Confirm that cleanup goals are achieved. Confirmatory soil samples will
be collected from the base and limits of the excavation and submitted
for analysis to verify the remediation.
o Arrange for disposal of contaminated soil at the nearest approved Class
II landfill.
o Restore the property ditch and other affected areas to their previous
condition.
o Report the remediation results.
An on-site mobile laboratory will analyze samples of the excavated soil in
order to expedite classification for disposal. The laboratory will also
analyze the samples collected from the base and sides of the excavation to
verify the cleanup. All samples will be analyzed by EPA 3550 GCFID.
SCHEDULE
We anticipate the cleanup can be performed in 3 days. The contaminated soil
will be excavated in one day. The on-site mobile laboratory results will be
available late the same day or evening so that excavation can continue the
next day if the results indicate remediation goals have not been achieved.
The permit needed to dispose the excavated soil at an approved Class II
landfill can likely be obtained in one day.
