' Plate VI is a generalized map of the property showing the
location of the UST in relation to other features. It was used
to fuel company vehicles and other equipment. It had been tested
for integrity in September , 1990, and was shown to be tight. It
' was in good condition when removed. The associated piping ana
fuel dispenser did not show any evidence of leaks or severe
corrosion. Tank disposition tracking records are attache❑ as
' Exhibit 8, and the tank tightness test records are shot-in In
Exhibit C.
' SUMMARY OF PRIOR WORK:
On October 19, 1992, Jim Thorpe Oil , Inc. (JTO, ) filed an Appli-
cation for Underground Storage Tank Closure Permit to remove a
' 1 ,000 gallon UST gasoline tante at the site; SExhibit A. ) As noteo
above, the tank had been tested on 9-2B-- 1990 by JTO, and was
found to be within allowable tolerances.
' After receiving County approval , JTG removed rhe 'yank , dispensing
u-,it 1.4 associated piping on 11--2--!992. While e,cavating on the
north wall , a small lease of gray-colorea clay was noted at about
2-3 feet depth, just below the fill material . It had a hvdrocar--
bon odor , but It was not determined whether the color was due to
contamination , or was the natural sail color.
' Two sail samples were taken from beneath the removed UST at
depths of 9. 5 & 10 feet bgl ; (see Plate VII) and two i2)
' composite samples were taken from the removed spoil . The
apparent area of contamination was not sampled. Required tests
were for BTEX , EDB, TPH--G, and total lead.
Laboratory analysis of the soil samples taken from beneath the
UST and the spoil pile revealed that bTEX , TPH-G, and EDB were
below detection limits. Total Lead was below detection limlLs in
the two samples from beneath the tank, but was measured at 6. 0
mg/kg in the composite spoil pile sample. The sample was then
retested for soluble lead , (STLC; ) which showed that no solublel'11-14-
' was present in the sample. Refer to Table I and Exhibit D for
more details.
Thi small amount of apparent contamination noted on the nortn
wall of the former tank site was of concern to the County EHD
staff , and verbal permission was given to e„cavate additional
soil in a northerly direction to see if it could be removed.
On November 11 , 199211 JTO removed approilrnately 25 cubic yards of
spoil in a circular area to the north of the removed UST, vent
staCK Q, fuel dispenser. The petroleum smelling gray colored clay
was still present at distance of about 10 feet, on the north &
east walls at a depth of about 4 feet. At this time, the County
J
