Kayo Status Report Page 7
May 8, 1987
t
The underground tanks were removed on October 30, 1986 .
Contaminated Soil in the tank backfill and beneath the tanks was
removed . Dames and Moore installed three monitoring wells on
December 12, 1986 . Subsequent water sampling showed minor
contamination ranging from 200 to 400 ppb benzene . The report
for Phase I investigation was submitted on February 3, 1987 .
Groundwater Technology, Inc. has onducted Phase II of the
subsurface investigation. This work consisted of installing
five monitoring wells near the boundary of the property and
offsite near the northeast corner of the property. The final
report with recommendations for remediation is due by May 15,
1987 .
Econo Station
7601 Greenback Lane
Citrus Heights, CA
Env. Assessment Consultants : Phase I - LSME
Phase II - Groundwater Technology
Remediation Consultant : Groundwater Technology
This station is closed and will not be reopened by Kayo. Kayo
proposes to sell this station. The underground tanks have been
removed and the tank pit backfilled with clean pea-gravel .
A groundwater recovery well and groundwater treatment system has
been installed . The system has beein operating since April 20,
1987 . The pumping rate is set very low (approximately 300
gallons per day) in order to meet the air emissions limit . The
aquifer is very low yielding, however, and a higher pumping rate
would probably not be appropriate . Air stripper influent and
effluent monitoring is being conducted twice each month as
required by the Sacramento County Air Pollution Control
District . Reporting is on a quarterly basis .
Groundwater Technology, Inc. has b en contracted to conduct a
pump test and assess the effectiveness of the recovery system
and air stripper . The pump test ways conducted- on April 20 and
22 . They will make recommendations for system improvement after
they complete their testing .
