Incident Summary
US Ecology was contacted by Cori (Store Representative) with Rite Aid
requesting responders to remove an unknown amount of paint dumped into the
facilities dumpster in Tracy, California on 10/11/2018 at 5:43 PM. Rite Aid #6490
was under OSHA audit in which the OSHA auditor found latex paint pails
dumped in the facilities dumpster. As a result of this finding, the OSHA auditor
informed the store manager to remove the paint pails in order to remain in
compliance. Rite Aid #6490 contacted the US Ecology National Emergency
Response Group to locate all paint pails dumped into the facilities dumpster,
package the waste, and stage it on-site for future disposal. The project was
managed through US Ecology with the assistance of Cori (Store Representative)
with Rite Aid. No material was released to outfalls or public areas.
US Ecology's response crew arrived on the site at 8:00 PM on 10/11/2018 and
began locating and packaging all the latex paint pails dumped into the facility
dumpster. The crew completed operations and left the site at 8:45 PM with
confirmation that the clean-up was complete.
The waste material was collected by the response crew. The waste generated
from this spill was accumulated into one 55G metal drum. No infrastructure
damage was noted.
The waste generated from this clean-up was labeled and left on-site per
instructions from the MOD.
No government agencies responded to this incident.
If you have any questions regarding this report, please contact Toryus Brantley,
US Ecology by e-mail at toryus.brantley@usecology.com.
3
