HMCC reports that in 1988 ground water was as shallow as 25
feet bgs within the site vicinity, Ground water was not encountered during drilling at depths
up to JJ feet bgs.
5.3 Impacted soils
NEI observations Indicate that soils containing hydrocarbon odors were encountered within
the three borings. OVA headspace readings ranged from 0 to greater than 1,000 ppm
for the samples screened. Laboratory analysis results support the field observations;
hydrocarbon concentrations above detection limits were reported In eight of the nine soil
samples analyzed. The results of the laboratory analyses are presented in Table 1,
A review of ;-able 1 Indicates that detectable TPH concentrations were present In the three
soil samples from B-1 analyzed for TPH. The sample collected at 20 feet bgs from B-1
contained 9,200 ppm TPH,the sample collected from 30 feet bgs from B-1 contained 1.4
ppm TPH,and the sample collected from 40 feet bgs from B-1 contained 220 ppm TPH. The
three samples analyzed from B-2, collected at 25, 35, and 40 feet bgs, contained non-
detectable concentrations of TPH, The three samples analyzed from B-3, collected from
20,30,and 40 feet bgs,contained non-detectable, 180 ppm,and 4.3 ppm concentrations of
TPH.
The benzene, toluene, xylenes, and ethylbenzene concentrations determined by
laboratory analysis for the nine samples are presented in Table 1. Non-detectable
concentrations of EDC and EDB were present In the nine samples analyzed,as determined
by laboratory analysis.
Lead concentrations of 120 ppm were reported In the soil sample collected 10 feet bgs from ,
Boring B-11. However, laboratory analysis results indicate that total lead concentrotions
decrease with depth. Jhe sample collected from Boring B-1 at 25 feet bgs reportedly
contained a lead concentration of 3 ppm. Lead concentrations from the other borings
- sampled ranged from non-detectable to 6 ppm.
