a
4r- —
a
Harken Marketing Company of California
Locot ion#100965
November 22,1991 Page 4
per 50 blow counts. Hammer blow counts were recorded over the sampling Interval as
blows-per-foot based on the last two 6-inch intervals.
Soil samples were collected from the SPS in 3-Inch long,2.5 Inch diameter stainless steel or
6-Inch long.2-Inch diameter h=ass sampling tubes depending on the type of sampler used.
One tube from near the cjV-!ng end of the sampler was collected for testing purposes.
Samples were fitted with Teflon sheets, sealed with plastic end caps secured with tape, and
placed on Ice in a cooler until delivery to a State-certified laboratory for analysis.
A portion of the soil sample collected in the remaining tubes was placed in a plastic Ziploc
bag and sealed. The bags were punctured with a Foxboro Century 128 OVA probe in order
to screen the soil sample head space for organic vapors. Results of the OVA screening
and soil descriptions are provided on the boring logs (Appendix A). Sol[ samples were
classified In general accordance with the Unified Sol]Classification System(Appendix A).
4.3 Decontamination and Disposal
Prior to sampling, the SPS was washed in a dilute Alconox detergent solution and rinsed In
tap and de-ionized water. The soil auger was steam cleaned and the resulting water was
contained in a labeled 55-gallon DOT approved drum. Soil cuttings were contained In
labeled 55-gallon DOT approved drums and stored on-site adjacent the west side of the
store structure.
Based on the laboratory analysis results and the diameter of the borings; the estimated
volume of gasoline-impacted soil cuttings is approximately 0.7 cubic yards, Due to the
limited volume of impacted soils,,open on-site aeration of the soil was.conducted as a
means of treating the soil cuttings Exemption D,within Sari Joaquin APCD Rule 409.9,states-
that open aeration is allowed for soles impacted with volatile organic, compounds where the
volume Is less than one cubic yard.. Aeration was performed during September 1991 by NEI.
4.4 Chemical Testing Program
_.. Chemical testing of soil samples was performed by Coast to Coast Analytical Services, a
-- - ------- - -- ----State-ceeified laboratory in Benecia,California.-Five-soil_samples from-Boring_B-_1_and three --
samples each from Borings B-2 and B-3,for a total of eleven, were selected for chemical
