' 1. 0 INTRODUCTION
This report presents the results of Tank Protect Engineering of
' Northern California ' s (TPE) subsurface investigation at -2A-3-74 2'3
Waterloo Road, Stockton, California (see Figure 1) . The purpose
of this investigation was to characterize the subsurface soil and
' groundwater quality beneath the property.
This site assessment was authorized by E-Z Serve Petroleum
' Marketing Company' s (E-Z Serve) May 1 , 1992 confirmation letter.
The investigation was conducted in accordance with the E-Z Serve
March 3 , 1992 Work Plan and TPE ' s subsequent May 26 , 1992 Health
and Safety Plan. Prior to implementing the work, both documents
' were submitted to and approved by the San Joaquin County Health
Services Department (SJCHSD) .
This Preliminary Site Assessment Report (PSARI includes: 1) a
limited review of site background information; 2) the
construction of 5 groundwater monitoring wells; 3 ) the collection
and laboratory analysis of selected soil and groundwater samples;
' 4) determination of groundwater flow direction and gradient
beneath the site; and 5) the preparation of this PSAR summarizing
TPE' s findings.
t
2 . 0 SITE HISTORY
Background information provided by E-Z Serve documents that the
site was formerly a gasoline/mini-mart containing 1 - 8000 gallon
and 2 -- 10, 000 gallon underground gasoline storage tanks. Each
tank was of single walled steel construction. The ages of the
tanks are unknown. The gasoline dispensing facility was closed
on March 3 , 1990 and the tanks were removed on March 8 , 1990 .
' The general configuration of the site is shown on Figure 2 . On
August 5 , 1991 a preliminary soils investigation was conducted by
Nachant Environmental Inc. (NEI) . NEI drilled and sampled three
exploratory soil borings (B-1, B-2 , and B-3) . Details of this
' preliminary study were submitted to E-Z Serve in a report dated
November 22 , 1991. According to Linda Turkatte (SJCHSD
representative) laboratory results of soil samples selected for
' chemical analyses detected petroleum hydrocarbons in at least one
sample from each boring . Analytical results from this study were
not available for TPE' s review prior to implementing the present
' investigation.
3 . 0 SOIL AND GROUNDWATER INVESTIGATION
' On May 1, 1992 TPE was contracted by E-Z Serve to drill and
install 5 monitoring wells (designated MW-1 through MW-5) at the
site. The purposes of this investigation were 1) to further
characterize the subsurface vadose zone soils, 2) to investigate
1
