Groundwater Sampling SOP <br /> Revision Na :0 <br /> Date:January 01,1995 <br /> Page: I of 5 <br /> BROWN & ROOT ENVIRONMENTAL <br /> CALIFORNIA <br /> STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE <br /> for <br /> GROUNDWATER SAMPLING <br /> OBJECTIVE : <br /> The purpose of this SOP is to provide a concise guideline for the proper collection of <br /> groundwater samples Implementation of the sampling procedures has a significant effect <br /> on the quality of the analytical data <br /> Sampling of existing monitoring wells and newly installed monitoring wells will consist of <br /> the following seven activities <br /> • Measurement of depth to water level and total depth of the well ( to calculate well <br /> volume), if the total depth is not provided, <br /> • Decontamination of sampling equipment, <br /> • Evacuation of static water(purging), <br /> • Measurement and recording of groundwater temperature, pH, and specific <br /> conductance, <br /> • Collection of the sample, <br /> • Sample preservation and, <br /> • Sample handling and transportation to the laboratory <br /> DECONTAMINATION : <br /> All sampling devices and monitoring equipment must be properly decontaminated prior to <br /> use Equipment decontamination must be documented in the logbook The <br /> decontamination process will consist of the following activities <br /> • Alconox and tap water wash, <br /> • Tap water rinse, <br /> CAGWSOP DOC <br />
