1
' 5 6 Groundwater Monitoring and Sampling
Due to the recent increase in groundwater elevation, depth to water at the site is currently above the
' screened Intervals for wells MW-1 through MW-8 Therefore, these wells will not be used for
groundwater monitoring purposes ATC proposes to gauge, purge and collect groundwater samples from
groundwater monitor wells MW-9 through MW-17 and vapor extraction wells SVE-1 through SVE-3 on a
' quarterly basis for a year
Assuming that phase separated hydrocarbons (PSH) are not present, static water levels in each well will
be measured, each well will be purged of an appropriate volume of groundwater, allowed to recharge, and
a representative groundwater sample will be collected from the well in general accordance with ATC's
' Standard Operating Procedure - Groundwater Monitor Well Purging and Sampling, which is included in
Appendix A Quarterly groundwater monitoring reports will be prepared and submitted to the SJC The
reports will summarize the quarterly groundwater elevation measurements, calculated groundwater
gradient and flow direction and analytical results of the quarterly sampling
' 5.7 Analytical Testing
Analyses of a representative sample of the drill cuttings and groundwater samples will be performed by a
' State-certified laboratory All drill cuttings will be collected in DOT-approved 55-gallon drums and will
remain on-site pending proper disposition Soil cuttings will be managed in accordance with the ACHCSA
Regulations
lieQuality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures, sample preservation, apparatus required,
and analyses performed will be per 1)A A C R9-14-601 through -617, 2) U S EPA Document EPA-600,
' "Methods for Chemical Analysis for Water and Wastes" dated July 1982, and 3) U S EPA document SW-
846, 3rd Edition, "Test Methods for Evaluating Solid Waste Physical Chemical Methods", dated
November 1986
Select soil and groundwater samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons characterized as
gasoline (TPHg), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, total xylenes (BTEX), methyl-tertiary-butyl ether
' (MTBE), tert-amyl methyl ether (TAME), tert-butyl alcohol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), and ethyl-
tert-butyl ether(ETBE) in accordance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Test Method 8260B
All groundwater samples will be additionally analyzed for ethanol, methanol, 1,2-dichlroethane, and
ethylene dibromide in accordance with EPA Test Method 8260
5.8 Vapor Extraction Pilot Test
A vapor extraction pilot test (VEPT) will be conducted to evaluate the feasibility of utilizing this
technology for remediation of the hydrocarbon-impacted vadose zone soil Additionally, the pilot test
data can be used to design the appropriate soil and groundwater remediation system
EZ 100966SAFSWP ATC Associates Inc
S%EZ Serve\EZ 1009661Reports\I00966SAFSWP ATC Project No 43 25827 0026
10
