5 8 Summary of Soil Sample Analytical Results
. During the additional site characterization assessment activities, which took place on December 9 through
16, 2002, sixty(60) soil samples were submitted to ZymaX for analytical testing Twenty-five of the soil
samples submitted for laboratory analysis were reported to contain one or more petroleum hydrocarbon
constituent concentrations above their respective laboratory equipment practical quantitation limits
(PQLs) A summary of soil sample analytical results from this phase of site assessment is provided in
Table 5, Additional Site Assessment, Groundwater Monitor Wells, Soil Sample Analytical Results —
' Petroleum Hydrocarbons and Fuel Oxygenates The distribution of selected constituent concentrations are
shown on Figure 10, Geologic Cross-Sections A-A' and B-B'
TPHg was detected above the laboratory PQL's which ranged from 0 5 to 100 milligrams per kilogram
(mg/kg, equivalent to parts per million) in seventeen (17) soil samples at concentrations ranging from 16
' mg/kg in soil sample MW-14/30' to 2,800 mg/kg in soil sample EX-1/40'
' Benzene was detected above the laboratory PQL's which ranged from 0 005 to 1 0 mg/kg in seventeen
(17) soil samples at concentrations ranging from 0 014 mg/kg in soil sample YEAS-3/60' to 3 5 mg/kg in
soil sample EX-1/40' Toluene was detected above the laboratory PQLs, which ranged from 0 005 to 1 0
' - mg/kg, in eighteen (18) soil samples at concentrations ranging from 0 006 mg/kg in soil samples VEAS-
1/65' and VEAS-2/30' to 120 mg/kg in soil sample EX-1/40' Ethylbenzene was detected above the
laboratory PQL's which ranged from of 0 005 to 10 mg/kg in seventeen (17) soil samples at
concentrations ranging from 0 007 mg/kg in soil sample VEAS-2/50' to 42 mg/kg in soil sample EX-
1/40' Total Xylene constituents were detected above the laboratory PQLs which ranged from 0 005 to
'
10 mg/kg in twenty-four (24) soil samples at concentrations ranging from 0 009 mg/kg in soil sample
VEAS-2/55' to 330 mg/kg in soil sample EX-1/40'
' Fuel oxygenates TAME, TBA, DIPE and ETBE were not detected above the laboratory PQLs, which
ranged from 0 005 to 10 mg/kg, in the sixty soil samples submitted for laboratory analysis during the
' additional site assessment activities MTBE was detected above the laboratory PQLs which ranged from
0 005 to 10 mg/kg in one soil sample submitted for laboratory analyses in one sample, VEAS-1/30, at a
concentration of 0 006 mg/kg A summary of soil sample analytical result for this phase of additional site
' assessment is provided in Table 5 Laboratory reports and chain-of-custody documentation is included in
Appendix F
5 9 Summary of Groundwater Sample Analytical Results
' On January 16, 2003, ATC personnel collected groundwater samples from 17 groundwater monitoring
wells, three from remediation wells VW-1 through VW-3 and one from extraction well (EX-1) ATC
utilized the attached groundwater monitoring sampling procedures described in Appendix C to collect
' groundwater samples from wells MW-1 through MW-17, VW-1 through VW-3 and EX-1 Groundwater
samples collected were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons characterized as gasoline (TPHg),
EZ 100966ASAR rpt ATC Assocsates Inc
' IISan Diego1EZ Serve11009661Reports1100966SAR001 rpt ATC Project No 43 25827 0026
11
