(AMV), has been authorized by Ultramar Inc. (Ultramar),
to prepare a soil management plan for handling of soil generated during the removal of three
existing underground storage tanks and possible overexcavation of soil if conditions warrant.
A copy of the soil management plan is enclosed. , Excavated soil will be stockpiled on site,
sampled, and transported to Ultramar's refinery facility in Hanford, California, or an appropriate
landfill.
Previous work at the subject site has included advancement of nine soil borings on site. Of the
24 soil samples collected from 9 borings, 7 soil samples contained measurable amounts of
petroleum hydrocarbon constituents, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, or xylenes (BTEX), total
petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline, or total extractable hydrocarbons (TEH). None of the soil
samples contained over 0.47 parts per million (ppm) of any of th; analytes (BTEX). None of
the soil samples collected from the site contained measurable amounts of benzene. One soil
sample, collected 12 feet below grade in soil boring B-4, contained measurable amounts of TEH
(42 mg/kg).
Soil samples will be collected from beneath product lines and tanks as specified in the
Tri-Regional. Guidelines and analyzed by the methods outlined in the Tri-Regional Guidelines.
All soil stockpiled on site will be covered with visqueen and secured.
San Joaquin County will be property notified prior to commencement of work and kept informed
as new information (i.e., soil sample results) is obtained. It is our understanding that Ultramar
anticipates performing removal of the tanks in the third quarter of 1993.
Lptoo9 A
